Let’s Confed, Africa !

Confed-Final-Day-063This month, in parallel to the Confed Cup, the Altus team and our Youth Sport Leaders were given the opportunity to be part of an exciting project initiated by the German Technical Cooperation’s Youth Development Through Football initiative (GTZ YDF):

“Let’s Confed, Africa!”

We organized five succesful streetsoccer tournaments with lifeskill sessions in three provinces (in Winterveldt, Mamelodi, on the West Coast and in Nelspruit) as well as our Olympic Fun Day as part of the programme.

The climax of the project was the closing event on the 28th of June which brought together streetsoccer teams including players from four South African provinces and from seven African countries in a thrilling tournament managed by our Youth Forum and won by the Africa Unite Team with players from each country.

Thanks go to GTZ YDF for involving us, to Karos & Kambro, Greenfeet and to all the hard-working volunteers and youth!

eKhaya Streetsoccer Tournament

Streetsoccer Values

On Saturday, 25th of October another great streetsoccer tournament took place with the support of our Youth Sport Forum Leaders – this time in Hillbrow in central Johannesburg to celebrate the opening of new facilities by the eKhaya association of property owners. Our streetsoccer specialists Lesogo, Mpoh and Tumi introduced the local organizers to the concept and values of streetsoccer and helped them set up the match fixtures. In addition we were able to support the event with real street-style goal posts and other material. But most of the work was done by the eKhaya neighbourhood association, and we want to congratulate them on their initiative to make Hillbrow “a safe, clean and friendly environment” using sport !

Altus Sport in conjunction with the Tshwane Metro Disaster Management Control Committee, supported by GTZ and NIKE Let me Play, is currently presenting a sport activity in the refugee camps in Tshwane by utilizing the services of our Youth Sport Leaders. The program consists of soccer, netball, volleyball and recreational games for the young ones. The refugees appreciate this initiative as it compensates for the stress and tension the everyday life in the camps generate.

Innovation! This youngster in the Rosslyn refugee camp lost one shoe but took the initiative to replace it by a plastic bowl making it easier to get along on the hard and stony terrain.
