Services Seta Skills Expo

Filed under: Sport Management, Youth Sport Forum — altussport @ 11:34 am

Thanks to Janet Landley from EMBOK, who invited Altus Sport and the Youth Forum Leaders who are currently doing the Event Management Learnership, to the “Services Seta Skills Expo” at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Monday the 30th of March. Approximately 900 participants attended this huge and well organised event. After a free breakfast and refreshments everybody gathered in the beautifully decorated conference room to start the expo with a prayer and national anthem. The next few hours were filled with highly interesting speeches about “The Spirit of African Entrepreneurship”, “Creating a Safe South Africa”, “Ubuntu Tea Houses”, “The Role of Communities in Activating South Africa for 2010 and finally about the “Socio-Economic and Enterprise Development” where Altus Sport’s project “Life’s a Ball” was very well presented to the audience by our Youth Forum Leader Molemo Lekoana. After the official part of the programme,  business links workshops about cleaning, entertainment, media, administration and even face painting were offered.
I think this event showed every participant how to open a business and how to run it successfully with using his skills the best way. Thanks again to Janet who invited us to this event and who organized and guided us through the programme so well!

SSCN Africa Workshop in Johannesburg

Filed under: Sport Management, Streetsoccer, Youth Sport Forum — altussport @ 1:24 pm

Nike invited members of the Sport for Social Change Network (SSCN) from all over Africa to an amazing workshop in Johannesburg from November 11th to 14th. The SSCN is a young and fast developing network that reunites a number of non-profit organizations that use sport to make a difference in disadvantaged communities. Altus was grateful to be invited with a team of directors and volunteers.

In the first part of the workshop experts from Nike South Africa and from the European Headquarters shared valuable knowledge with us on such topics as Branding, PR, Event Management and Digital Marketing. Of course, having this blog, we feel very modern, but now we know there are many other opportunities out there to make Altus as known as Nike. Or almost. In a second part, the directors of the organizations present discussed the development of the SSCN itself. We hope you’ll see and hear a lot more of the network in the future. But “details” like finding a good logo can turn out to be quite time consuming. If you want to propose one, don’t hesitate to mail it to us. Finally, while all the member organizations presented themselves on a “marketplace”, Nike offered us the opportunity to apply for small grants with ideas for new projects. We were very successful in uniting almost all the organizations present for a streetsoccer relay across Africa leading up to 2010. Sounds cool? Will be even cooler! More on that later…

gamechangers

So huge thanks go to Nike. We’d also like to congratulate them on their new gamechangers initiative: Read this, think of Africa, and tell me you can’t feel the energy! Sorry to all adidas fans if this all sounds like a bit of Nike marketing, but the girls and guys with the swoosh really are doing some great stuff :)
