Mandela Day Activities

In keeping with the spirit of Nelson Mandela Day, the Altus Sport youth forum was afforded an opportunity to reach out to those in need.   They were given R67.00 to aid them with an activity of their choice.  These activities had to be done on Mandela Day, 18 July 2011 which would see them spend their money on a worthy cause.  Some of the activities included amongst others, buying a bunch of flowers for a patient in hospital, cleaning up and buying groceries for a needy, poor-sighted neighbour and participating in a fun-day programme for disabled people and also buying some luxuries for them. All in all, an excellent effort was made on the part of the youth leaders and it gave everyone a chance to reflect on the greater need around us.

Lovejoy doing her bit for Mandela Day!

On 30 October 2010 Altus Sport in partnership with the French NGO, Secours Populaire and the French Embassy hosted a Sport Fun Day at the Zonkesiswe community soccer field in the south of Johannesburg.

A group of 150 youths around the Sonkesiswe township joined 50 French youths from France and participated in an exciting fun filled day of sport. Altus Sport was supported by local NGO’s Ekupholeni dealing with HIV and the Ayobayo Youth Soccer Academy in Katlehong.

The activities included a variety of sport and educational games wrapping up the day with the hand-out of new pairs of soccer boots and balls to the youngsters.

A sum of 13 000 pairs of soccer boots with a total value of nearly a three quarter million rand were donated by the French Railway Workers’ Committee of South-Eastern France (Comité d’entreprise des Cheminots de la région PACA) and shipped to South Africa. These boots will also be distributed  to other disadvantaged regions in South Africa.
